Elementary School Wellness Program Helps Students Build Healthy Habits in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: Monte Vista School District NO. C-8
  • Date Funded: September 27, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $20,628

Physical education classes can positively impact students’ well-being, with studies linking regular physical activity to a reduction in anxiety and depression and an increase in attention span and feelings of self-efficacy. However, the children at Bill Metz Elementary School lacked access to engaging fitness equipment and were unmotivated to participate in PE class. So one of their teachers reached out to LOR with an idea: collaborate with students and staff to develop a “Wellness Class” curriculum for children in grades 2-5, supported by a dedicated, furnished space that includes age-appropriate exercise equipment.

LOR’s support will fund all the equipment, decor, and supplementary materials needed to support the new class and equip students with habits that fuel life-long health and success.
