School Library Upgrades Promote a Love of Reading in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: Monte Vista School District NO. C-8 Applying Contact
  • Date Funded: September 23, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,600

Foundational literacy is essential to children’s academic achievement, and strong library programs play an important role in creating equitable pathways to long-term success.

However, the library at Bill Metz Elementary School didn’t offer the kind of environment or reading materials that would promote an early love of reading. In fact, according to the school’s new Computer and Library Teacher, many students expressed outright resistance to spending time in the library. So she approached LOR with an idea: transform the library into a warm, welcoming environment with an updated selection of books to encourage students to spend more time reading.

LOR’s support will cover the cost of upgrading the library’s book collection and the cost of new decor, furniture, and other supplies to help children develop literacy and language skills while providing a safe space for them to learn and grow.
