Crosswalks Enhance Libby Student Safety

  • Local Champion: Libby K-12 Schools
  • Date Funded: September 24, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $6,566

Education Way is home to both Libby Elementary School and Libby Middle High School. Yet, the street doesn’t have a single crosswalk despite hundreds of students crossing daily. For teachers, administrators, and parents, the absence of safe crossing zones has long been a concern given the street’s proximity to U.S. Highway 2, busy surrounding businesses, and the chaos of drop-off and pick-up. One Libby Middle High School staff member wanted to tackle this problem, so he reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help Libby Public Schools purchase and install a series of crosswalks and warning signs along Education Way, alerting drivers of the nearby schools and helping students stay safe while crossing the road.
