Cortez Training Helps Engage High School Students

  • Local Champion: School Community Youth Collaborative
  • Date Funded: September 30, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $1,350

Because there has been so much turnover recently among high school teachers and staff in Cortez, there are fewer professionals who know what types of programming resonates with the student population—and where to find it. To address this problem, leadership from the School Community Youth Collaborative (SCYC), an organization that supports youth on their path to adulthood, brought forward a potential solution: Train staff and volunteers on finding and using quality after-school programming that engages high schoolers. LOR’s funding helped SCYC hire a subject matter expert who will conduct the training, which will help launch a fresh slate of co-curricular opportunities for students in the near future.
