Leadership Training Builds Community Power for Spanish-Speaking Cortez Residents

  • Local Champion: Montezuma Land Conservancy
  • Date Funded: March 11, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $8,988

Spanish-speaking residents make up a significant portion of Montezuma County, but language barriers and a lack of representation limit their ability to engage with local organizations and access community resources. Seeing this persistent gap and wanting to better serve Spanish-speaking residents, staff with Montezuma Land Conservancy reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will cover participant stipends, childcare, meals, and venue costs to help Montezuma Land Conservancy host a two-day Spanish-language leadership training in Cortez. The training will foster connections between participants and local nonprofits while launching a new engagement model, creating pathways for Spanish-speaking community members to become local leaders and advocates.
