Cortez Middle Schoolers Strike Up the Band With New Instruments

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: March 28, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,834

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band program at Montezuma-Cortez Middle School has grown tremendously—with more than 180 students participating in the 2022-2023 school year. Roughly 100 of those students are 6th graders, meaning the program is likely to remain large for years to come. However, the school does not have enough instruments to accommodate the unprecedented growth. To address that problem, the band director reached out to the LOR Foundation, which helped the school purchase clarinets, flutes, and saxophones that will allow more kids to join the band and learn a lifelong skill.
