Cortez Detention Officers Find Much Needed Support

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: December 4, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $2,022

The demands for a detention officer are different than those of other law enforcement professionals, and many officers at the Cortez Detention Center lack a support system to help them deal with the challenges of their profession. With this problem in mind, a community member and retired corrections officer came up with the idea to launch a one-on-one peer support program for detention officers. Officers can book time directly with a retired correctional officer who is knowledgeable about the work and hardships of the position. LOR’s funding will help with the cost of event supplies for the meetings as well as a calendaring platform subscription to make scheduling easy.

This funding opportunity is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation
