Bingo Nights Bring the Fun for Monte Vista Seniors

  • Local Champion: Tri-County Senior Citizens & Housing Inc
  • Date Funded: March 19, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $3,901

Monte Vista’s elderly residents have few opportunities to engage with one another. The problem might not seem like a big deal, but it’s troubling; a 2023 report from the United States Department of Health and Human Services highlighted America’s “loneliness epidemic” as a growing public health concern, one with with very real harms. Staff at the Tri-County Senior Center, the only place in Monte Vista where seniors can gather and visit, wanted to help address the problem by providing local seniors with more activities. Hoping to start community bingo nights, they reached out to LOR for help. LOR’s funding will support Tri-County’s purchase of a bingo machine, bingo cards, chairs, and a TV to display bingo numbers. Who knew tackling loneliness could be this fun?
