Halloween Costumes Build Community Connections in Monte Vista

In Monte Vista, financial barriers prevent some families from participating in seasonal community events and from building connections with local law enforcement. Recognizing this gap, a member of the Monte Vista Police Department reached out to LOR with a solution: launch a free annual Costumes with a Cop event that gives every child the chance to make Halloween memories while building familiarity and trust between the police department and the community it serves. LOR’s funding will help the department purchase 150–200 Halloween costumes in a range of sizes, along with event decorations, carrying buckets and bags, and snacks and beverages. Scheduled for October 17, 2026, the event will take place at the Monte Vista Police Department, where children can select a free costume and meet officers in a welcoming, non-enforcement setting.
