Bilingual Outreach Helps Taos Families Navigate School Choice Options

  • Local Champion: Taos Municipal Charter School
  • Date Funded: November 5, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $8,000

Many Taos families don’t have easy access to clear, bilingual information about local public school options and often rely on word of mouth or outdated details when making important education decisions. Without consistent communication in both English and Spanish, it can be difficult for parents to understand all the programs available and find the best fit for their child’s learning needs.

To bridge this gap, the directors of Taos’ five public charter schools joined forces and reached out to LOR with a collaborative idea: a year-long bilingual outreach effort using social media and community storytelling to share accurate, accessible information about local education opportunities.

With support from LOR, the five charter schools—Taos Charter School, Anansi Charter School, Taos International School, Taos Integrated School of the Arts (TISA), and Taos Academy—will partner with a local PR firm to develop and manage bilingual social media content. The initiative will feature weekly posts highlighting student successes, school programs, and learning opportunities, and will include real questions from families to reflect community interests.

Each school will designate a communications liaison and contribute staff time and resources to ensure shared ownership. This collaborative pilot project aims to help English- and Spanish-speaking parents make more informed education choices while strengthening trust and connection between families and local public schools.
