Athlete Safety Remains a Priority for Cortez Schools

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: August 21, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,995

With layoffs at the local healthcare system, the high school lost its athletic training program, which was funded and organized by Southwest Memorial Hospital. Without the hospital resources, the supplies and medical systems are not available for student athlete safety. While the school district was able to retain a staffer for athletic training, it lost its budget to purchase medical supplies. To address the problem, staff reached out to the LOR Foundation, which helped the district purchase equipment for concussion testing, rehabilitation plans, and subscriptions to protect over 450 middle and high school students in Cortez.
