An Irrigation Filter Helps a Cortez Orchard Use Water More Efficiently

  • Local Champion: Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project
  • Date Funded: August 18, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $3,000

The Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project (MORP) in Cortez has seen tremendous success over the past year, particularly with the recent apple harvest. In order to keep the operation in motion, though, the staff water each of their hundreds of trees daily, which means the filters on the irrigation system must be flushed constantly. To improve the system, staff reached out to the LOR Foundation with an idea: Purchasing a self-flushing filter to convert the irrigation to a more water-efficient drip system, thus conserving a scarce community water resource.
