Water Delivery Sustains Wild Rivers Access During Well Repairs

  • Local Champion: Friends of Rio Grande del Norte National Monument
  • Date Funded: January 22, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $1,700

Questa residents and visitors have lacked access to water at the Wild Rivers Visitor Center for over a year due to a broken well, forcing staff to haul water multiple times weekly to provide drinking water and restroom facilities.

When conservation leaders learned that federal spending restrictions were delaying well repairs, they reached out to LOR with a short-term solution to maintain access during the repair period.

LOR’s funding will help Friends of Rio Grande del Norte contract a water hauler to deliver approximately 7,000 gallons—enough to sustain the visitor center for three months until the well is repaired. This water delivery will ensure that Questa residents and tourists can continue to safely access this popular recreation area while permanent repairs are completed.
