An HVAC System Opens Up a Space for Cortez Veterans

  • Local Champion: American Legion Ute Mountain Post 75
  • Date Funded: November 24, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $19,700

The American Legion community room is one of the few affordable places Cortez-area veterans and residents can gather for celebrations, fundraisers, and community events. The problem was an outdated and ineffective HVAC system limited its use. After seeing veteran meals and other events become too hot in summer and too cold in winter, one Legion leader came up with a solution. LOR’s funding helped American Legion Ute Mountain Post 75 purchase and install two new furnaces and two air conditioning units. The new climate control system will allow the Legion to host year-round events—from veteran celebrations and nonprofit fundraisers to Breakfast with Santa—providing Cortez veterans and residents with a comfortable, affordable gathering space.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
