Air Conditioning Supports a Safe and Inviting Space for Taos Teens Year-Round

  • Local Champion: St. James Episcopal Church
  • Date Funded: October 10, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $7,650

Taos Common Grounds is a Co-Op and Cafe operated for teenagers by teenagers (with support from an adult Director). The space serves as a safe gathering place for young people, offering free access to WiFi, a food pantry, meditation space, a gaming room, laundry services, showers, and resource referrals (for support in education, mental health, and housing). However, during the summer months, the facility’s lack of air conditioning significantly impacted the number of youth spending time at the center. So, a Common Grounds team member reached out to LOR with a solution: install climate control to ensure that the cafe remains a consistently comfortable and inviting environment.

LOR’s funding will support the purchase and installation of an air conditioning unit to properly manage temperatures at Common Grounds year-round.
