A Traveling Volleyball Program Benefits Libby Youth — and the Local Economy

  • Local Champion: Libby K-12 Schools
  • Date Funded: March 3, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $11,775

Middle school girls in Libby have few options to participate in competitive sports year-round, a problem that extends beyond local youth. With few competitive traveling teams, Libby misses out on hosting tournaments that would bring visiting families to local hotels, restaurants, and shops during slow tourism months. One staff member at Libby Middle High School saw a solution that could address the gap in youth sports and boost the local economy, so he reached out to LOR with his idea. LOR’s funding will help Libby Public Schools purchase volleyball equipment including nets, posts, balls, and carts, allowing the district to launch a traveling volleyball program that will create new opportunities for sixth- through eighth-grade girls and generate economic benefits for the entire community.
