A Prom Pop-Up Shop Brings Affordable Formal Wear to Cortez Students

  • Local Champion: Dolores Bears Booster Club
  • Date Funded: February 18, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $1,500

Many Cortez students struggle to afford formal wear for high school events like prom, and local options are limited or expensive. After successfully running a prom pop-up shop in Dolores for four years, one parent volunteer saw an opportunity to expand the event to Cortez and serve more students across Montezuma County. LOR’s funding will help the Dolores Booster Club rent the Sunflower Theatre and Cortez Makerspace for a student-modeled fashion show and pop-up shop offering gently used formal attire at very low prices. The event will provide affordable prom options for dozens of Cortez students while creating opportunities for youth to participate as models, choreographers, set designers, and entrepreneurs.
