An Extra Hand Improves Engagement and Sustainability for Cortez’s Montezuma Heritage Museum

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Historical Society
  • Date Funded: January 7, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,720

With only one full-time employee managing everything from front desk coverage to exhibit development, the Montezuma Heritage Museum has struggled to grow membership, deepen community engagement, and pursue strategic partnerships that would strengthen the museum’s impact. The museum’s executive director (and only employee) had a solution in hand, so she reached out to LOR with her idea. LOR’s funding will help the Montezuma Heritage Museum hire a part-time staff member for 20 hours per week during the peak visitation season from May through October. The new staffer will manage volunteers and members and assist with other day-to-day operations, freeing the executive director to grow the museum’s programs and support its long-term sustainability.
