A Training Tool for Teens Helps Cortez Youth Advocate for What They Want

  • Local Champion: School Community Youth Collaborative
  • Date Funded: February 15, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $7,300

Youth in Cortez have limited opportunities to share their perspective about issues that are important to them—so too often adults with good intentions end up creating programs that might not be what local youth say they need. Staff at School Community Youth Collaborative identified a potential solution, though: Empower young people by teaching them how to raise awareness about an issue and how to engage with donors and other philanthropic organizations to address that issue. Funding from LOR will help support the purchase of the evidence-based Youth Roots curriculum, teaching SCYC’s Youth Leadership Council how to identify the most significant issues facing youth in Montezuma County and how to raise funds and awareness around those issues.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation
