A Support Program Helps Cortez’s First Responder Families Build Resilience

The families of Cortez’s first responders face unique challenges, from constant worry about their loved ones’ safety to the stress of irregular schedules and community responsibilities. After recognizing these struggles in her own life and those of other first responder spouses, one local mother had the idea to adapt DARE to be You, an evidence-based parenting program, to address their specific needs. She worked together with DARE to be You’s creator to develop a plan to offer specialized parenting classes that would give local first responder families tools for strengthening communication and managing stress. LOR’s funding helped cover the trainers, workshop supplies, childcare for participants, and other costs needed to launch the program, fostering a space where Cortez first responders and their families could find support and build resilience together.
