A STEM Program Prepares Cortez Students for Engineering and Tech Careers

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: August 5, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $25,000

Many Cortez high school students are interested in pursuing careers in engineering and technology, but Montezuma-Cortez High School lacks the hands-on learning opportunities to prepare them for these growing industries. School leaders envisioned creating a new STEM program and hired a teacher. But they still needed help getting the program off the ground, so they reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help Montezuma-Cortez High School purchase drones, robotics kits, 3D printers, and other equipment to create a comprehensive STEM career pathway. More than 60 students have already requested the program as their primary elective choice, and the hands-on curriculum will prepare them for further education at Pueblo Community College or direct entry into the workforce.
