A Snowmobile Speeds Emergency Response in Libby

  • Local Champion: Kootenai Winter Sports Ski Education Foundation Inc
  • Date Funded: November 18, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $14,500

Turner Mountain Ski Area’s volunteer ski patrol keeps thousands of skiers safe each winter, but without mechanized equipment, patrollers can struggle to quickly reach and assist injured people on the mountain’s remote slopes. One ski patrol board member had a solution: purchase a snowmobile. When patrol leaders couldn’t secure funding through other sources, they reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help Turner Mountain (which is operated by Kootenai Winter Sports Ski Education Foundation Inc.) purchase a new Ski-Doo Summit snowmobile, allowing the group’s volunteers to respond more quickly to emergencies, transport medical equipment across difficult terrain, and evacuate injured skiers more efficiently during the winter season.
