A Nonprofit Startup Helps Feed and Mentor Cortez Youth

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: October 17, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $2,600

Many Cortez youth lack the support and community they need to flourish, a problem two Cortez locals set out to address by launching free Friday dinners at the Cortez Skatepark. After using their personal grill and financing the project themselves for more than a year, the locals saw an opportunity to expand their grassroots effort into something more sustainable. Their idea? Create a dedicated nonprofit focused on youth engagement, mental health, role modeling, and food security. LOR’s funding helped the locals cover legal fees, application costs, and other permits they needed to establish the nonprofit, laying the groundwork for a permanent program that will provide free meals, mentorship, and connection to Cortez youth.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
