Skating Program Gets Students Moving in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: Monte Vista School District NO. C-8
  • Date Funded: March 25, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $23,616

For Monte Vista students who aren’t interested in traditional sports, there are limited opportunities for fun, active experiences that encourage movement and build healthy habits. After noticing low engagement in typical physical education routines, two PE teachers at Bill Metz Elementary reached out to LOR with an idea to launch a skating program that would appeal to a broader range of interests.

LOR’s funding will support the purchase of skates in all sizes, heart rate monitors, agility equipment, a portable scoreboard, and playground recreation kits, as well as gym floor preparation for indoor use.

Participants will learn basic skating skills while building confidence, balance, and coordination in both indoor and outdoor settings. Agility stations will also remain available on the playground during recess and after school, extending access to neighborhood children and families.
