A New Year-Round Lander Walking Path Helps Seniors Get Their Steps In

While Lander has plenty of outdoor places for residents to walk and run in in every season, none of them are maintained year-round to a level that make them safe for seniors and those with disabilities. A teacher at Baldwin Creek Elementary saw the rundown walking path around the school’s playground as a ripe solution to the problem: Paving the third-of-a-mile path (with a commitment from the school’s maintenance team to keep it clear of snow and ice) would present an option for community members to get their steps in sans worry. The school’s proximity to the senior center makes it especially appealing, so the teacher reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help cover the cost of dirt removal and concrete pouring (the concrete is being donated); funds raised from the community will cover the rest of the costs.
