Updated Equipment Expands Youth Mountain Biking Access in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: San Luis Valley Cycling
  • Date Funded: July 22, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $7,534

For the past ten years, the San Luis Valley Rattlers Mountain Bike Team has provided Monte Vista youth with an affordable pathway into mountain biking, keeping costs low for riders and families by providing essential equipment and gear. However, reduced grant funding has left the program without the resources needed to support its continued growth, creating challenges with gear storage, training equipment, apparel, and monitoring tools. A volunteer coach and San Luis Valley Cycling board member approached LOR with an idea to address these gaps and ensure more young people can safely participate: purchase the equipment and gear needed to strengthen skill-building opportunities and race-day operations. LOR funding will help the San Luis Valley Rattlers Mountain Bike Team purchase gear bags, luggage tags, jerseys, a deck and ramp package, and a bike computer. These investments will improve race-day organization, expand on-trail training opportunities, and ensure more Monte Vista youth can participate in an outdoor recreation program that builds health, confidence, and lifelong active living.
