A Mower Expands Summer Trail Access in Libby

  • Local Champion: The Kootenai Cross Country Ski Club
  • Date Funded: January 15, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,500

Libby’s 13-mile Nordic trail system attracts hikers, equestrians, and cyclists during the summer months, but without proper maintenance dense foliage makes the trails impassable and creates fire hazards. In the past, members of the Kootenai Cross Country Ski Club have rented equipment to perform trail upkeep. But in recent years the practice has become prohibitively expensive, leaving the status of the trails in doubt. One of the club’s members saw an opportunity to continue the group’s summer trail maintenance, so he reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help the club purchase a riding mower, ensuring these family-friendly trails remain accessible to everyone year-round.
