A Groomer Keeps Kootenai Nordic Trails Accessible

  • Local Champion: Kootenai Cross-Country Ski Club
  • Date Funded: March 29, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $24,000

Each year volunteers with the Kootenai Cross-Cross Country Ski Club put in hundreds of hours to maintain Libby’s Flower Creek trail system. But their efforts have gotten more challenging since the group’s trail groomer went out of service in 2021. Now it takes volunteers more than 12 hours to groom the 13-mile cross-country course, wearing out the volunteers and their equipment. The club’s president had the idea to purchase a new trail groomer, but the group didn’t have the budget to buy a new machine. In need of support, he reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding, alongside a grant from the Montana State Recreational Trails Program, will help the club purchase a John Deere 835 UTV and Ginzugroomer with track setters, keeping Libby’s cross-country trails open and accessible.
