A Fire Safety Pamphlet Teaches Libby Residents About Wildfire Risk

  • Local Champion: Lincoln County Port Authority
  • Date Funded: April 27, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $21,000

Libby has experienced an influx of new homeowners unfamiliar with the area’s significant wildfire risk—some even believe the area’s green landscape means no fire danger. But Lincoln County has the highest wildfire risk in Montana. Building on conversations between residents and local officials, one Lincoln County Port Authority staff member reached out to LOR with an idea to improve local fire education. LOR’s funding will help the Lincoln County Port Authority hire contractors to research, write, and design a homeowner fire mitigation guide tailored to Lincoln County. The pamphlet will be distributed through county offices, libraries, hardware stores, and real estate offices, helping both new and longtime residents understand wildfire risk and take proactive steps to protect their homes and neighborhoods.
