A Feral Cat Testing and Vaccination Initiative Reduces Risks for Lander Pets and Residents

  • Local Champion: Lander Spay and Neuter
  • Date Funded: September 5, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,200

More than 300 feral cats have been spayed and neutered in Lander, Wyoming, in the last several years, thanks in part to the efforts of Lander Spay and Neuter. However, the vast majority of these cats have not been tested for things like FIV (AIDS in cats), Felv (leukemia), and have not been vaccinated against Felv, rabies, and distemper. While the feral cat population is coming under control, the diseases they carry still pose a risk to humans and pets. To address this problem, Lander Spay and Neuter wanted to add testing and vaccinations to their services, but needed a little help to get these expanded services off the ground, so volunteers reached out to LOR. LOR’s support will help with the purchase of equipment that will make this expansion in service possible, helping reduce the risk of the Lander community being exposed to diseases carried by feral cats.
