A CPR Machine Saves Lives in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: Monte Vista Community Ambulance Service
  • Date Funded: April 19, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,634

Monte Vista’s lone ambulance agency is small but mighty. But while Monte Vista Community Ambulance Service’s small staff isn’t an issue on a given day, it can quickly become a problem during cardiac arrest emergencies. Without a CPR machine, the agency’s EMTs are forced to do manual chest compressions, limiting their ability to respond to other patients’ needs. Staff with the Monte Vista Community Ambulance Service wanted to purchase a mechanical chest compression machine to help EMTs better respond to situations with multiple patients. They held a fundraiser and collected half of the money needed, but the agency’s limited budget was still a barrier. So they reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help Monte Vista Community Ambulance Service purchase a LUCAS 3 chest compression machine with a rechargeable battery and external power supply, ensuring Monte Vista’s EMTs have the tools they need to save lives.

Impact

Within weeks of Monte Vista Community Ambulance Service receiving the CPR machine, it was put to use for the first time in the field on a patient who was in respiratory arrest—and saved her life!
