Youth Driver Education Raises Awareness About Road Safety in Cortez

  • Local Champion: School Community Youth Collaborative
  • Date Funded: April 25, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

Young drivers in Cortez often underestimate the dangers of distracted driving despite a new hands-free driving law in Colorado. After learning about an innovative training, one staff member with the School Community Youth Collaborative decided to bring the program to Cortez to help young drivers better understand the risks. LOR’s funding helped the School Community Youth Collaborative purchase distracted and drowsy driving simulation kits that allow drivers to safely experience the dangers of unsafe driving habits. The kits will be used during high school activities, community gatherings, and at other events throughout Montezuma County, providing valuable hands-on education that will keep Cortez youth safer.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
