Transportation Vouchers Keep Libby Residents Connected to Essential Services After Flooding

  • Local Champion: Area VI Agency on Aging
  • Date Funded: December 22, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $3,000

Flooding in Libby washed out multiple bridges and roads, forcing some residents to travel up to 40 additional miles to reach groceries, medical appointments, and other essential services. Many vulnerable residents—particularly seniors on fixed incomes—can’t afford the extra fuel costs or public transportation fees created by these lengthy detours, so staff with the Area VI Agency on Aging came up with a solution. In need of support, they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help the Area VI Agency on Aging purchase gas cards and public transportation vouchers for Libby residents experiencing financial hardship from bridge and road closures. The vouchers will enable vulnerable community members to reach medical care, food, and access emergency services while Libby recovers.
