Wyoming Five Star Platform Brings Professional-Level Coverage to Lander High School Sports

  • Local Champion: Lander local
  • Date Funded: July 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,000

In Lander, residents are passionate about high school athletics—especially with no professional sports teams to follow—but accessing detailed stats, rankings, and athlete profiles for local teams and their opponents remains difficult. After years of discussing this gap, Lander’s head basketball coach and a former athlete had an idea to create Wyoming Five Star, a comprehensive sports platform that would provide the same type of coverage that professional teams receive. Starting with basketball season and expanding to all Lander high school sports, this ESPN-style platform will feature in-depth storytelling, accurate statistics, and athlete interviews that showcase local talent—including recent Olympians and nationally-ranked athletes—to audiences across Wyoming. LOR’s funding helped launch this pilot program by covering website development, photography for athlete profiles, statistical analysis, and travel costs to cover away games. If successful, the founders plan to scale statewide while creating advertising opportunities for local businesses seeking broader exposure.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
