Workshops and Youth Outreach Train Cortez Residents in Water Conservation

  • Local Champion: High Desert Conservation District
  • Date Funded: December 15, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $25,000

Cortez ranchers, farmers, and landowners face mounting challenges managing limited water resources due to declining soil health, early irrigation shutoffs, and limited conservation knowledge. Staff at the High Desert Conservation District have seen growing demand from farmers and ranchers seeking practical water training, so they reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help the High Desert Conservation District launch workshops and a youth education program and expand trainings on regenerative grazing, soil health, and efficient irrigation practices. The initiatives will equip both experienced and new landowners with practical skills while also teaching the next generation about watershed stewardship.
