Women’s Biking Clinics Build Confidence in Monte Vista Outdoors

  • Local Champion: A Monte Vista Local
  • Date Funded: May 22, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $21,097

Monte Vista is ideally located for outdoor recreation, yet opportunities for women, particularly women of color, to access safe, welcoming, and confidence-building outdoor spaces remain very limited. After hearing from an overwhelming number of women who wanted to participate in outdoor activities but lacked the skills, community, or resources, an elite off-road racer from Monte Vista had an idea: to create women-led biking clinics. LOR’s funding helped hire coaches, purchase gear and safety equipment, rent dirt bikes, secure outdoor space, and provide gift cards for participants in a 9-week mountain biking clinic and a 4-week motocross clinic. Led by experienced female riders, the clinics provided 12 women with hands-on instruction, mentorship from professional athletes, and a supportive community to build technical skills and confidence while exploring Monte Vista’s extensive trail system.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Optimystics Citizens Action Network.
