Soccer Nets Help Monte Vista Welcome More Kids to the Pitch

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: May 3, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $14,339

Participation in Monte Vista’s youth soccer program has exploded over the past year, and while it’s exciting for kids and families it has put a stress on the town’s recreation budget. In just the past 12 months, the soccer program has grown from 43 kids to a total of 123—and the two soccer nets the town owns are not enough to accommodate the increased interest. With this issue in mind, the town’s recreation director reached out to the LOR Foundation, which made a grant to help the city purchase eight new nets—four of which are a standard 16.5 x 18.5 feet, and four of which are smaller. The new nets will help the city welcome even more athletes onto the fields in coming years.
