To Be, Or Not To Be: New Props and Costumes Aid A Community Theater Renaissance in Libby

  • Local Champion: Kootenai Karacters
  • Date Funded: February 27, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $4,500

Libby has a vibrant art scene. Just look around and you’ll see any number of sculptures and murals. Yet, despite Libby’s embrace of the arts, the community has few opportunities for community theater. Libby Public Schools has not had a theater program in roughly 15 years, while a local group, the Kootenai Karacters, went inactive three years ago. Increasingly, students and community members have been interested in revitalizing Libby’s preforming arts. One local teamed up with the school district to create a new multigenerational theater program. The district purchased scripts and music, but the group still lacked the full funding they needed to launch. To help fill in the gaps, the local reached out LOR. LOR’s funding will support the group’s purchase of materials for costumes, props, and sets, as well as posters and programs. It will also provide a small stipend for the theater director and music director. With the support, Kootenai Karacters will be reborn and Libby’s actors and playwrights will finally get the stage they deserve.
