Solar Lighting Extends Hours at Libby’s Nordic Warming Hut

  • Local Champion: The Kootenai Cross Country Ski Club
  • Date Funded: January 21, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,600

Libby’s Flower Creek Nordic trail system is seeing increased use, with youth ski lessons growing from six children to 32 this year. The problem is the trails’ off-grid warming hut lacks reliable lighting for families gathering after lessons and evening skiing. One volunteer with the Kootenai Nordic Club wanted to make the community gathering space more welcoming during dark winter evenings, so he reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help the club purchase and install solar panels, battery banks, and LED lighting, extending access to Libby’s free public trail system and encouraging community connection.
