Thanks to Extra Top Soil, Cortez High Repairs Its Practice Field on Time

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: September 7, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,450

Students at Montezuma-Cortez High School have been unable to use its practice field for sports, band practices, and other activities because it is unsafe due to holes, uneven ground, and exposed sprinklers. While the district was in the midst of implementing repairs, a large rain storm eroded much of the top-soil that had been laid down in anticipation of new sod. This left the school about five dump loads worth of dirt short for the 85,000-square-foot field. To address the problem quickly, the school’s maintenance director reached out to LOR, and with the foundation’s help the school was able to purchase new top soil and finish the project on time.
