Taos NEST Emergency Shelter Will Help Residents Navigating Crises

  • Local Champion: Taos NEST
  • Date Funded: March 27, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $30,000

Residents of Taos County—particularly those struggling with food insecurity, lack of housing, mental health issues, and substance abuse do not have an accessible, central location where they can seek emergency shelter and crisis intervention services. To address this problem, community members have come together to launch Taos NEST (Navigating Emergency Shelter Together), which aims to be the first and only one-stop crisis intervention center in town. While the leaders of NEST hope to use public funds to create the space, they need to draft construction and fire suppression plans and receive permitting before they can access those funds. A grant from the the LOR Foundation helped the NEST team complete the necessary steps to gain permits and move forward with the project.

This project was fiscally sponsored by the Dream Tree Project
