Taos Incentivizes Locals to Weigh in About Tourism

  • Local Champion: Town of Taos
  • Date Funded: July 24, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $2,500

Taos has long had a robust tourism economy, and finding a sustainable approach to managing tourism is the focus of the Town of Taos’ Destination Stewardship Plan. By focusing on long-term tourism sustainability and socioeconomic balance, the plan aims to preserve Taos’ tourism assets while improving the quality of life for all residents. But the plan can only be successful if it’s informed by community voices. To ensure this happens, the town approached LOR with an idea for incentivizing residents—particularly those from underrepresented groups—to respond to a survey about local tourism.  LOR’s funding will help support the purchase of gift certificates to local businesses (as incentives) and marketing efforts to make residents awareness of the incentives.
