Tactical Emergency Medical Services Ensures Care for Monte Vista Residents in High-Risk Situations

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: December 16, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $21,597

Monte Vista police officers are often the first to respond to calls where there are medical emergencies present, including high-risk, extended-duration law enforcement operations. However, local officers have not had the training to provide urgent medical care in situations where EMS volunteers are delayed or cannot safely enter the area. So a Monte Vista Police Department employee reached out to LOR with an idea: establish a Tactical Emergency Medical Services Program to prepare officers to provide critical on-site medical care.

LOR’s funding will cover the costs of CPR certification and Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) training for three officers, provide a stipend for a supervising medical director, and purchase life-saving equipment for tactical medical kits, helping to ensure that all Monte Vista residents have access to emergency care in high-risk situations.
