Skeet Houses Expand Shooting Sports in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Cortez Trap Club
  • Date Funded: February 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,900

Many Cortez youth and adults participate in shooting sports, but access to skeet shooting has been limited to private locations, putting it out of reach for many interested community members. When the Cortez Trap Club received a donation of two skeet houses from a local family, the group set out to make the sport more accessible to local youth and residents. The problem? They first had to transport and site the skeet houses on the group’s range. One volunteer with the organization came up with a solution. LOR’s funding helped the Cortez Trap Club prepare the grounds and transport the donated skeet houses to their property, creating a space where local 4-H clubs and school teams can practice free of charge.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
