Shade Structures Protect Dog Owners at Lander Dog Park

  • Local Champion: City of Lander, Wyoming
  • Date Funded: June 16, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,323

In Lander, the dog park is heavily used by dog owners who rely on it as a place for their pups to exercise and socialize, but there’s no shade or weather protection for the humans waiting nearby. When a dog owner heard that LOR was leaving Lander soon, she reached out with an idea she and other regular park users had been discussing: install mobile fabric shade structures to provide relief from the elements. Working with the parks and recreation department—who are overwhelmed with summer work to install the structures themselves—she ensured installation is included in the quote. LOR’s funding will help purchase and install two post hip fabric shade structures, giving the many Lander residents who use the dog park the weather protection they’ve been seeking.
