Shade Structure Protects Taos Track Athletes During Meets

  • Local Champion: A Taos local
  • Date Funded: April 9, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $3,945

Taos High School track athletes and coaches lacked adequate portable shade during long meets. Their previous tent was too small, leaving students and coaches without consistent protection during outdoor events and resulting in prolonged sun exposure that compromised comfort, safety, and participation.  Recognizing this problem after hearing concerns from their own student-athlete, local parents had an idea: purchase a larger tent that could provide reliable shade for the full team while also reflecting team pride. LOR’s funding helped Taos High School purchase a 10×20 commercial-grade tent with customized logos that can be easily assembled and transported to meets. The tent will provide consistent sun protection for athletes and coaches at both home and away events throughout the track season, improving comfort and safety during outdoor competitions. This durable, practical investment will be used repeatedly, supporting student well-being and stronger participation in outdoor sports.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Downtown Taos.
