Secure Firewood Storage Ensures Landerites Can Stay Warm All Winter Long

  • Local Champion: Faith Lutheran Church
  • Date Funded: March 19, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $5,100

Many Lander residents rely on firewood as their primary heat source for their homes in the winter. Firewood is expensive, but volunteers from Faith Lutheran Church cut, split and stack several cords of wood every year to give away to folks who arrange with the church to pick it up. Theft has become a big problem, though. This year, a pile that should have lasted into March was gone by January because of theft. Volunteer recognized a simple solution: store the firewood in a locked storage container, allowing those who are in need to access the wood when they contact the church. They just needed a little help procuring the container, so they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will pay for a 20-foot by 8-foot storage container that can be locked, ensuring there’s enough firewood to get Lander residents through winter.
