Roof Repairs Preserve a Historic Libby Community Space

  • Local Champion: Heritage Museum
  • Date Funded: April 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $8,559

The Sylvanite Cook Shack stands as the last remaining building from Sylvanite, a once-thriving mining town outside of Libby. It now serves as an important gathering place for Libby residents. Local groups use the historic structure for museum meetings, school field trips, community events, and private celebrations, but a leaking metal roof now threatens its continued use. One local volunteer and member of the Heritage Museum’s grant committee wanted to ensure this important community space was preserved, so she reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help the Heritage Museum hire a contractor to repair the metal roof and damaged ceiling of the cook shack, ensuring future generations can enjoy the community resource and connect with Libby’s mining heritage.
