River Camp Teaches Cortez Teens About Local Watersheds

  • Local Champion: Dolores River Boating Advocates
  • Date Funded: December 5, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,000

Cortez teens have few opportunities for outdoor education and adventure during summer break, leaving many without meaningful time outdoors and limiting their knowledge of the local environment. Aiming to build on their successful middle school river camp, staff with Dolores River Boating Advocates reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Dolores River Boating Advocates hire river guides and a camp counselor to host 10 to 20 high school students on a multi-day river trip. The free camp will deepen students’ knowledge of water safety, Leave No Trace principles, and local watersheds while also providing safe outdoor adventure.
