Refurbished Garden Beds Teach Water Conservation in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Montezuma School to Farm
  • Date Funded: October 8, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $8,040

Cortez students have few hands-on opportunities to learn about water conservation and sustainable agriculture, a problem that has been compounded by the decay of garden beds at Montezuma-Cortez Middle School. Staff at the Montezuma School to Farm Project wanted grow local agricultural education, so they reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Montezuma School to Farm Project replace 17 raised beds and install new irrigation systems at the Montezuma-Cortez Middle School garden. The refurbished garden will enable students to participate in a water conservation curriculum while growing produce for school cafeterias and local food pantries.
